As a future teacher, I consider the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action to be extremely important. Indigenous peoples in Canada have experienced historical and ongoing injustices, which must be acknowledged and addressed. As part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, educators must promote inclusive and culturally sensitive classrooms, incorporate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into curriculum, and advocate for equitable access to educational opportunities for Indigenous students. It requires a dedication to truth-telling, empathy, and reconciliation, both within the classroom and in society as a whole. As a future educator, I am committed to play a role in promoting understanding, healing, and justice for Indigenous communities, recognizing that reconciliation is a collective journey that demands ongoing commitment and action.
